If you make a swoop past Berkeley Square this December, make sure to make a B-line for Annabel's. My designs have been made into larger than life Christmas revellers. It looks so festive, I just want to hop up there with them and sip on a Dirty Martini!
Richard Caring and the whole Birley team have just sent out their Christmas card. I've really enjoyed creating the artwork in preparation for the digital team at Graphicks_ to bring it to life.
I'm pleased to announce that there is an exciting article about my work in this months issue of Vogue. Thank you for the lovely words. The article can be found on page 194. Have you got your copy yet?
Annabel’s is a member’s only nightclub situated on Berkeley Square in Mayfair, owned by Richard Caring the great clothing tycoon. It was founded by Mark Birley and John Aspinall in 1963 and named after Mark Birley’s beautiful wife, Annabel. It has catered for clientele such as The Prince of Wales, US President Richard Nixon, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Ella Fitzgerald.
I was approached by some very complimentary people who oversee the running of Annabel’s at Caprice Holdings and asked whether I’d be able to design the new front cover for their member’s club magazine. They requested I design the magazine cover to illustrate a brand new rule that they were about to announce. It was a rule that affected the strict dress code, a dress code that has not altered in 52 years. In addition to evening wear, the change in the code now states that clientele, both men and women, now can attend in jeans, however they must be insured to be dark, smart tailored jeans, absolutely no rips or stone washes! Annabel’s member’s magazine has for many years sported an iconic red front cover but in light of this change they wanted to compliment the modification of the dress code by having an illustrated front cover, which I was to design.
I was honoured to be asked to take on this role as chosen artist, especially to delineate these changes and have taken complete delight in dressing up my characters in the appropriate attire that Annabel’s prides itself so much for…
…Miss Cheetah wore her dress by Preen, Mr Hare decided that his pocket square by Brunello Cucinelli was apt for the evening, Mr Fox reveled in the fact that he could now wear his Hugo Boss jeans and Mademoiselle Gazelle thought her Graff earrings and last-night’s supper worn around her shoulders complimented each other superbly. They have been depicted sipping dry Martini’s and Dom Pérignon, perched and propped in the bar that is situated in the first room as you enter the club at Annabel’s.
